For this project, I chose to animate a portrait of Bella Hadid from her August Allure cover. Without an idea in mind, I was initially was drawn to this image because I have always had a fascination with portrait photography and wanted to explore the ways in which I could manipulate facial features in an eye-catching way - No pun intended. I thought it would be both eerie and intriguing to have Bella’s eyes move in a way that the audience had to take a second look to grasp what was going on, hence why I not only chose to make her iris move – or ‘wrap’ – around her eyes, but to use a different iris than what an audience would normally see every day. The colourful iris adds to the sci-fi /hippie effect I was hoping to achieve with my animation. I also tried to achieve this effect by changing the background color of the original image along with adding different layers with slightly different hues to create a psychedelic effect.
